About Us


We started the BirdPics website in 2007 with the rather ambitious aim to photograph all of birds recorded in the Southern Africa sub-region. Once we had pooled our photos together we realised that we only had about 50% of the 965 species. Wow !! this was going to be an unbelievable task to get good quality photos from the remaining species. Little by little we targeted new species and the adventure of photographing the remaining species began and took us to all corners of the country and beyond. What a great way to see Africa and our region in detail.

Today we have reached the 925 mark !! and there are about 25,000 photos online to enjoy.
